da 888: The money coming into Manchester United these days almost guarantees a marquee signing each summer.
da casino: The Old Trafford club flexed their financial muscles last summer with the world record acquisition of Paul Pogba, and also spent big on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly. Having recently been named as the richest club on the planet with revenue exceeding an eye watering £515million, United are expected to dig deep again this summer and provide Jose Mourinho with another staggering transfer war chest.
Over £150 million was spent last summer, yet this season could see spending far eclipse that figure.
United have had an extremely inconsistent season. League Cup success and probable Europa League glory have glossed over a poor league campaign, in which the Red Devils have proven an inability to put games to bed.
A large percentage of this blame may be apportioned to a lack of goal scorers. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been largely relied upon to find the net for the Reds this season, but when the big Swede isn’t firing, United struggle for goals.
It is not very often United are labelled as boring, and this was certainly an adjective never heard around Old Trafford during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure. Mourinho will want to shake off this negative tag, and may look to some of the game’s biggest stars to turn Manchester United into the feared machine they once were.
Who should be United’s marquee signing this summer, though? Here are three suggestions…
Paulo Dybala
Off the back of a starring role in the demolition of Barcelona in Turin, Dybala is the name on everybody’s lips. Overshadowing his international team mate Lionel Messi, Dybala tore the Barca defence apart, and deservingly helped his side establish a three goal lead to take to the Camp Nou.
The Argentine moved to the Old Lady in 2015, and has won a mountain of silverware in his short time in Northern Italy. Nicknamed ‘La Joya’ or the jewel in his home country, the people of Argentina view Dybala as the final piece of the puzzle in their impressive cluster of attacking talent.
At 23-years-old, Dybala is a youngster looking to make his mark on the world, and he is certainly at a club that can achieve this in Juventus. However, if Manchester United are to challenge on Europe’s biggest stage once more, it is players like Dybala that they must prise away from Europe’s other top sides.
Dybala perhaps needs another year in Italy to hone his skills and prove to the world that he is a future Ballon D’Or contender, but there’s is no doubting that he would be a massive addition to Manchester United.
Neymar
Neymar plays in the best team in the world. Neymar is on a wage many people could only dream of. Neymar lives in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Why would he want to leave? Because Neymar wants to be the best.
At Barcelona Neymar is often overshadowed by his peers, and while he is undoubtedly one of the best three players on the planet, it is often Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez who take the plaudits at the Nou Camp. If the Brazil international is to achieve his dream of becoming the world’s best player, he needs to do it away from the shadow of Lionel Messi. He needs to take a team by the scruff of the neck and turn them into world beater.
Only two or three clubs in the world could afford to prise him way from Barcelona, and Manchester United are one of them. It is rumoured that Barcelona may be willing to cash in on one of their biggest assets, and if a suitable financial package can be agreed, then United’s cheque book should be at the ready.
Neymar will win the Ballon D’Or, and he can do it at Old Trafford.
Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann has been linked to United all summer long, and it seems like a deal for the Frenchman is the most likely of the three to go through. Since moving to Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad, the France international has become one of the best players on the planet.
Another potential future Ballon D’Or winner, Griezmann would bring an excitement to Old Trafford not seen for many years.
Full of goals and creativity, Griezmann would be perfect operating at the centre of United’s attack. 24 club goals this year has elevated the forward up the Spanish goal scoring charts, and his ability to play across the front line will be a big draw for an Old Trafford bid.
His friendship with Paul Pogba may also draw the player to Manchester, and do not be surprised to see Griezmann in red next year.
