da aviator aposta: Chelsea have made a bit of a habit of stealing players from under the noses of Tottenham Hotspur.
da wazamba: The most well known example of this was with Chelsea star Willian, who Tottenham flew into London to agree a transfer; before Willian decided he wanted to move to Chelsea instead.
More recently, Michy Batshuayi chose the Blues over Tottenham too; reigniting the transfer rivalry between fans of the two clubs.
But what if the shoe was on the other foot? What if Tottenham had the opportunity to poach a few of Chelsea’s stars away from them?
An unlikely scenario yes – but what if it did happen? Could it benefit the player? Could it benefit the club? It is definitely an interesting scenario
With that, here are THREE Chelsea players that would be better off at Tottenham..
Michy Batshuayi
A very recent one to start out with, and although we still don’t know the sort of role that Batshuayi will play with Chelsea; I think there is little doubt that he would have gotten more game time with Tottenham.
It remains to be seen whether the Blues will opt for two strikers; but the likelihood is that the side will typically only field one – and Diego Costa will always be Chelsea’s number 9.
That means whenever Costa is fit, Batshuayi will have to sit on the bench and wait for his chance.
Of course Tottenham do have a similar scenario, with Harry Kane being the sides undisputed number 9; but the squads striking depth is almost non-existent.
Kane had to pay a mammoth amount of games last year; and Batshuayi could definitely have taken some of the load off. Not to mention the fact that Spurs are not averse to utilising two strikers when the time calls for it.
Oscar
Oscar is a strange case. He was brought in to Chelsea with very little fanfare; but on his debut scored two absolute screamers – immediately hyping him to the moon.
Since that point Oscar has been inconsistent, which has now lead to the loss of his immediate place in the first team over the last year or so.
A switch to Tottenham would no doubt reinvigorate his career, allowing him to play week in week out and get back to his best. On top of this, Tottenham’s pass and move style of play would suit Oscar down to the ground.
With Chelsea reportedly willing to let the midfielder go; this could work for both parties.
Nemanja Matic
Another player that seems destined for the exit door, Nemanja Matic would be a good fit over at White Hart Lane.
Eric Dier is a great central defensive midfielder, but at times last year he looked bogged down; with a lack of support around him.
Matic would be the perfect player to bring him that support. A strong, athletic stalwart in midfield; on his day there is nobody better.
The Serbian midfielder is seemingly set to leave the club this summer, no doubt at a cut price – and Tottenham should definitely take a look. A partnership of Matic and Dier would be absolutely unstoppable.
