Republic of Ireland winger James McClean decided to share his frustration at not playing for his country in a foul mouthed Twitter rant despite a crucial, last gasp victory in Kazakhstan that stands Ireland in good stead in their World Cup qualifying group.
McClean remained an unused substitute for Giovanni Trapattoni’s squads’ victory in Eastern Europe but despite another sub Kevin Doyle scoring a vital last gasp winner; it seems the Sunderland winger was still unhappy.
Tweeting from his official account @JMcC-23, the winger said: “Delighted as a fan we got the the win.. Personal level #fuming #f****njoke #embarrassing.” The tweet was later deleted.
McClean was expected to make more of an impact at Euro 2012, but despite Ireland struggling, his role was subdued within the Irish camp and it seems that even in World Cup qualifying not many changes will be made.
Trapattoni’s future is still uncertain despite their narrow opening game win and McClean’s rant could go one of two ways without another competitive game for over a month.
