Aston Villa have struggled for consistency at the start of the season and Saturday’s defeat to Sheffield Wednesday means their current record stands at just one win from their last eight matches in all competitions.
Steve Bruce’s side currently sit 13th in the standings and three points behind the play-off spots but have already slipped to five points behind the automatic promotion positions, which is where Villa will be aiming for after their heartbreaking defeat in the playoff final at Wembley in May.
For Villa to rise up the standings into the top two, a major upturn in form is required and improvements are also necessary if they are to finish inside the playoff spots – and the pressure upon the shoulders of Bruce is rising.
While he boasts vast experience in English football, the displays of his Villa side this season have been poor and he has already started to lose the support of fans – which suggests that the club cannot win promotion while he remains in charge.
Do you agree Aston Villa fans? Have your say on whether Villa can earn promotion with Bruce in charge in our poll below…
