West Brom are eyeing up a potential summer move for Watford legend Troy Deeney, according to The Express & Star‘s Joseph Masi.
The Lowdown: Baggies make flying start
The Baggies have made a superb start to their Championship season, amassing 10 points from four games and winning 1-0 in stoppage time at Peterborough United on Saturday.
Valerien Ismael’s side are playing some eye-catching football and look primed to be one of the promotion favourites in 2021/22.
The Latest: Deeney linked with Albion move
With time running out for West Brom to make new signings, the reliable Masi has taken to Twitter to claim: “Sources telling me Albion are amongst the clubs monitoring Troy Deeney’s situation at Watford.”
The 33-year-old has scored 140 goals in 419 appearances for the Hornets, but is yet to start a Premier League game this season.
The Verdict: Something different
At 33, Deeney wouldn’t represent a long-term signing for the Baggies, but he could provide a physical option in attack, roughing up defences and chipping in with goals.
He has 84 Championship goals to his name already, and even if he were an option from the substitutes’ bench, he could chip in at key moments throughout the campaign.
It looks increasingly as though he is no longer a key player at Watford, so it will be interesting to see if Ismael swoops for the 33-year-old in the final days of the transfer window.
In other news, West Brom have also been linked with a key defensive addition. Read more here.
