da aviator aposta: In light of West Ham’s recent interest in Barcelona’s starlet Andreu Fontas, the Hammers and their fans should feel complete optimism this summer when the window re-opens
The club have shown a major interest in a number of top quality players which include the likes of Thierry Henry and David Beckham, and again this week attempted to sign yet another player from Spanish giants Barcelona
The noticeable interest shown in big names and starlets can only put a smile on each and every West Ham fans face, especially after suffering such a disappointing season last year. The club were on the verge of dropping into the Championship, but managed to turn their fortunes around in the nick of time, earning them another year in the top-flight of English football.
Financially the Irons are more stable than they once were. The arrivals of both David Gold and David Sullivan (who are now co-chairmen at the club) certainly look to be taking the East London club in the right direction in the finance area. They have definitely bought more solidity and the Hammers are now in a position to strengthen their squad this summer if they want to. The appointment of Avram Grant as manager will effectively draw in new players, especially those who know of his work and management style.
However, the club are still in debt and are by no means in the ‘red’, but signs suggest that these arrears are slowly decreasing which is good to see and hear if you’re an Irons fan. Even though West Ham are still cash-strapped, the club are still willing to try and acquire the right players to help the team on the pitch and in the merchandise sector. The interest shown in Beckham and Henry are prime examples of where the club want to be in the near future – great players, which would bring in a lot of revenue. Granted, many fans will feel that these players have had their day, but to some it must be pleasing to see their club linked with such big stars of the game.
As well as Beckham and Henry, West Ham have also been linked and shown a keen interest in Sylvain Marveaux, Robert Pires, Juan Roman Riquelme, Nadir Belhadj and in the past week, have been tracking down Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan. These are all very good players we are talking about, and for West Ham to be competing with other top Premier League clubs for their signature is an achievement in itself. If they could acquire these players, or just one or two of them, then it would be good for the club and its fans in general.
There is no doubt that the Hammer fans should feel really optimistic and enthusiastic about the upcoming transfer window which opens on July 1st. West Ham are showing early promising signs by targeting such established players, and by taking everything into account, and what has been reported so far, it looks as if the East London club are set to make an impact in the market this summer.
However, are they targeting the right players? Many fans will have different views on this. Whatever the case maybe, it appears that the Hammer fans will be doing more smiling this season than last, if of course everything goes according to plan, only time will tell…but so far so good, right guys?
