da dobrowin: According to reports in The Sun, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has renewed hope that he can complete a £48m deal to sign Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci this summer.
da betway: The Blues boss is desperate to sign a new centre-back this summer to replace the outgoing John Terry and provide competition for the successful three-man defence of Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz next season, and the 30-year-old is said to be one of his top targets.
Even though Bonucci has played his whole career in Italy, he could be tempted to have a crack at the Premier League following his side’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last weekend.
A move would also allow him to work with Conte for a third time having played under him for Juve and the Italian national side, and his signing would certainly be something of a coup for the west London outfit.
Here are three reasons why Bonucci could be the signing of the summer for Chelsea…
He is a younger version of Terry
Some people may say that having watched Bonucci on a regular basis, he is like a younger version of John Terry.
The 30-year-old is aggressive, loves a battle against a striker and always puts in a committed performance on the pitch, while he is actually more comfortable on the ball than the Chelsea legend was.
He is also vocal and a leader in the backline and he could prove to be a huge addition for the Blues to help them in their quest to retain the Premier League title and compete to win the Champions League next season.
He is a proven winner
While he may have come up short in the Champions League final on Saturday, there is no doubt that Bonucci has that winning mentality in his blood.
The 30-year-old has won nine trophies during his time with Juventus, while he also lifted the Serie A title with Inter Milan in 2006.
Alongside Giorgio Chiellini at the heart of the Juve defence, he also produced an exceptional defensive display as the Italian giants recorded an impressive goalless draw in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, going through 3-0 on aggregate.
His wealth of experience
Bonucci has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Europe in recent years and he has now played more than 300 matches for Juventus including in Serie A and the Champions League.
When you add a further 69 caps for Italy into the mix, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will know that he would be getting a hugely experienced defender that has seen it all and can prevent the very best strikers from scoring if he can complete a deal.
