da marjack bet: There are big plans afoot at Leeds United.
da supremo: Indeed, there’s a new training ground on its way, rumours have been circulating about a QSI takeover, and most excitingly we’ve heard that Elland Road is going to be increased to a 50,000 capacity stadium.
Angus Kinnear announced at the club’s centenary celebrations back in October that there were plans to expand the iconic stadium.
However, those dreams may not be realised anytime soon as Phil Hay delivered the latest on United’s expansion project.
What’s been said then?
The reporter was talking about the current state of play in terms of Elland Road on the latest edition of his podcast.

“The interesting thing about Elland Road is that any development of the actual stadium itself is likely to come last, and it’s 100 per cent not going to happen until they get promoted,” Hay said (The Phil Hay Show 14/2/20 26:00).
“There are big plans for the Elland Road site and the land surrounding it, particularly the training ground on what was the old Matthew Murray High School site.
“Any stadium development is Premier League dependent, the plan would be to raise the West Stand to the same height as the East Stand and to create a capacity more like 50,000 rather than 35,000.
“But the club aren’t pretending as if that’s coming imminently, this is going to be done in phases, and an increase in stadium size would be the last stage or a very future part of this whole project.”
Makes promotion even more important
Leeds going up to the Premier League has always been their goal, but promotion will be that much sweeter knowing that they’ll be treated to an expanded stadium once they reach the top flight.
Elland Road already has one of the best atmospheres in English football, so can you imagine that with an extra 15,000 packed into it?
Not only would it be amazing for the Whites faithful, but it would truly be a sight to behold for travelling fans and people watching on television.
First, though, the club need to get into the top-flight but after winning just two of their last 11 league games their chances of doing that this season are dwindling.
